Who’s Who at the GRO

Rick Dyke-Price

Director and rally organiser.

Until retirement in his mid-fifties, Rick was senior partner of London surveyors -  Smith Price, specialising in all aspects of retail property.

Having participated in such long distance events as the 2000 “ Around the World in 80 Days” rally and the 2001 “ Inca Trail,” Rick considered that there was an area of classic car motoring not sufficiently catered for i.e. less competition, more investigation. Hence the formation of the Global Rally Organisation to concentrate on adventure tours primarily outside Europe, in areas of outstanding natural beauty. Central to the success of these tours will be the detailed research into the history and significance of the countryside / buildings along the route and having the time to visit them.

There is no intention to run competitive rallies with a touring event tacked alongside.  We organise long-distance adventure tours where the classic car is key and not part of a mixed array of vehicles of all types and ages.

We are able to organise these rallies at cost, solely as we will also be participating alongside our members. In short, we are organising the events for shared enjoyment, not for profit and the destinations are ones we want to explore.

Stuart Onyett

Route planner / researcher.

Retired from farming in his mid fifties, Stuart accompanied Rick on the “Around the World” rally and was responsible for the route planning to the successful London to Sydney Friendship Rally in 2005 – a major achievement considered from any perspective crossing 15 countries and over 17,000 miles.

Great care is taken to research the suitability of the roads for classics – not 4 x 4’s, the historical significance of any sites that should involve a stop-over and total distances. This thorough attention to detail ensures a daily schedule capable of achieving our goal of arriving late afternoon / early evening. As stated, we aim to avoid driving in the dark.
